I have definitely determined that after all this time I think the only thing harder than watching Daniel in so much pain is watching Rob watch Daniel in so much pain. Without a doubt these last two days have sucked. Daniel has spent more time on the toilet or commode than resting in bed. He is at most times in excrutiating pain and passing small blood clots and large amounts of mucous lining that as you can imagine for a male is beyond painful. Last night he was so loaded up on pain medication that he was mostly asleep on the potty all night and was so tired that his oxygen levels were compromised and needed to have oxygen assistance. So as you can imagine exhaustion is a factor. The pain meds are doing quite a trick on his stomach and appetite as well and his regular desire for food is gone. I am in a quandary. I can’t imagine I would want to eat either. I am not pushing eating at all. Besides everything he has tried to eat since Friday he has mostly thrown up and is relying on nausea medication just to keep his medication down and the pills are a full meal in itself. The medicine is the most important to keep down. Plus they are pumping him so full of fluid but he is also constantly pumping it out. Right now we are awaiting an ultrasound test from this morning to see if he will need a catheter. We are hoping not and that we will be home tomorrow or Tuesday to manage this in our own. The nurses say that this is par for the course and that the new transplant kids are on the revolving door schedule for a while. Frankly I liked long drawn out and boring over this shit.
