All is going well on DAY 98 and Daniel’s CMV counts are slowly coming down. We are down to 53,458 units, however Daniel needs to be at Q and Q which is 1,000 before treatment is at a maintenance level. Right now Daniel is a couple weeks into weaning his cyclosporin. This is his antirejection medicine. By starting this slow weaning of cyclosporin it will allow his body to start growing back his own new parts of blood cells now that will allow him to begin fighting his own infections by building up his own immune system. It is a slow process and one that comes with side effects, but so far Daniel is weathering them alright. He is so tough and taking it all in stride. He has been sick every morning and back to throwing up, so I need to start waking him up early for nausea medication and trying to time his pills differently. Daniel thank goodness continues to get taller and continues to fall farther down the weight percentile weight scale. The biggest problem to date is that his loss of appetite doesn’t help. He has never been a sweet eater and mostly craves salad. He had a hysterical fit the other day that he was “seriously going to die of scurvy because he couldn’t have salad” I tried to resist my laughter. Lettuce is one of his toughest restrictions to deal with aside from his favorite sushi. Nausea combined with loss of appetite mixed with no activity to work up an appetite makes weight gain tough. But Daniel looks great. Really great. The weight will come back. He is also using the new elliptical machine and is up to 18 minutes a day. He is doing great to get better. We look forward to Friday and DAY100. It is a big milestone we will celebrate.
