Today being Sunday means all day football and Rob showed up early. Actually before Daniel was even awake. On a whim I decided to get it together and leave for the afternoon and treat myself to a movie. It felt really good to have some quiet time to myself. As much as I want to see friends and visit, the time alone was really nice. I really got lost in the movie and new that Daniel didn’t miss me for a minute and was fine. In fact, he woke up feeling great and I knew Rob would keep him on track with all his chores. Actually I have faith that Daniel is very responsible about all his medicines and is very on top of his schedule and chores/exercises. Speaking of this, the past few nights Daniel has been needing oxygen assistance because his levels have been low. Likely due to the fact that he HAS NOT been doing his breathing exercises. He thinks because he is walking around and feeling fine he doesn’t have to do these particular exercises. WRONG. You see it is very easy to get fluid in the lungs and infection, and it happens so quickly and can be fatal so it needs to be avoided at all costs. The problem is the best way to remedy this happening is difficult and boring. It is using a respiratory spirometer every 2 hours. Well he doesn’t like it and he hasn’t used it and the result is he now has needed oxygen for weakened lung capacity and is frustrated as all get out from a beeping monitor that keeps telling him this.
SOLUTION= Marshmallow Blow Gun Problem solved in one day (residual problem: sticky shoes)
An added bonus to the situation is added calories. Blow two marshmallows, eat 4 marshmallows, blow two marshmallows, eat a handful of marshmallows. No downside in my eyes, except maybe a belly ache. Needless to say, there was no oxygen needed last night. The doctors and nurses are great sports here at TCH. They certainly know what works for kids. It looks like a snowstorm in our room here and I am even finding marshmallows in my pockets. Do you know how bad a marshmallow can hurt flying at a high speed? Like I said, it may be unconventional, but whatever works and the more fun the better. I haven’t had to ask Daniel to do his breathing exercises once today.
As we head into a new week I hope to have not much of anything new to report. I hope for a peaceful fall break for all with rest and family and hmmm, lots of football I guess.
