Things continue to go fairly well according to the doctors. We are in holding pattern and expected to stay this way until engraftment. This can be anywhere between 28-36ish days from DAY 0. Daniel’s ANC is at its lowest now, so that only means up from here!!! When his new cells engraft and start making cells of their own his ANC will (hopefully) quickly begin to multiply with new robust HEALTHY cells, and before you know it he will be home again. I know I keep repeating myself but this is the story and we are hoping to stick to it with ZERO diversion along the way. As far as side effects so far we have seen a few but none that have been untreatable and the mucousitis is even tolerable for this rockstar so far. His weight is dropping and his calorie intake is less than half of normal these days but he is still eating on solid food and enough of it to keep him off of a feeding tube. Last night I made him a homemade milkshake with 6 crushed kit kat bars (Halloween size) and two coffee Hagen Daaz ice cream pints and some whole milk and he ate it like a champ. Hand shaken to build my muscles. Watch out Cold Stone I may have taken your place. If that wasn’t enough calories for one dessert I don’t know what is. After that we went for an evening stroll which ended in a game of chase. Check out the lovely picture I took. He just loves the photo documenting by the way.
I have not yet posted the picture but need to say I love the fact that I fall asleep and wake up every day looking at this huge sign of love. Arielle Williamson took it upon herself to orchestrate this show of affection that brightly lights our room and shows the love of so many of Daniel’s friends and classmates. They wish him well and send their thoughts and this is our daily visual reminder bright and clear.
