Last night was great my parents came in yesterday for a visit and all went well through the day. I was tired from being up very early for the past several mornings, but nothing really unusual. Daniel had a great afternoon sports show and is really a natural in front of the microphone. He is building a nice little resume for a sports analyst career that he aspires to . As a stepping stone to NFL Commissioner of course. He was so impressive that one of the heads of the hospital stopped by the studio to meet Daniel and thank him for allowing him to be in his video (he is in the elevator scene). By the looks of him Daniel wanted to ask if he was related to Peyton Manning but he knew to be polite. What a very nice man.
The evening went well and finally after the Monday night football game Daniel and I went for our last walk. Maybe it was being overtired or something, but Daniel and I always have a fun times doing laps but tonight we literally wrapped one blanket around us together and over our heads and ran through the halls. We were laughing so hard the Nurses although laughing at us had to tell us to quiet down. Sheesh! We fell into beds exhausted and ready for sleep. Daniel watched some videos and then looked at Facebook I guess and then asked me some questions about colleges and then told me about his old camp counsellor Ben wrote a paper about Daniel and sent it to him. He loves Ben and has always had a special bound with him. Daniel became very quiet and went to bed. It is times like that that I wonder if I need to leave him alone for a bit or just cuddle up next to him.
Through the night Daniel had to receive platelets because they were really, REALLY low, now as an afterthought, maybe running in the halls wasn't such a great idea. We the nurse who we have never had before was so loud that that was it for me. I was up at 3 and that was it. By 4, I had given up on sleep completely so I hit the computer. Big mistake. Well I got to Facebook and there it was the source of Daniel's silence. I am overcome by emotion by what Ben has written. I knew Daniel had a connection to Ben from the first time I had heard of him after he got back from camp. They have always been in contact but I knew it was special when on Daniel told me that Ben was the first and only one he had told about his diagnosis. That was one of the first days Daniel was able to put a sentence together between his pain and he chose to contact Ben in Winnipeg, his camp counsellor. I remember calling the cap director and expressing to him how special Ben must be to evoke such a special bond with Daniel to trust him enough with sharing this news. Now I know just how special Ben is and how much Daniel means to him. Please take a few minutes to read Ben's work.
