What a busy, busy day. Daniel had me wake him up early because he was lucky enough to have the chance to be invited to go to the Make-a-Wish Holiday Shopping Event. Special arrangements were made for the BMT kids to go pick up a slew of gifts for themselves and their families, and get his picture taken from Santa. This was a first for Daniel and first he was. He was the first child to go and was masked and gloved up. He didn’t actually sit on santa’s lap. He sat beside Santa. I suggested they put a mask on Santa and ironically Daniel came back saying he thought Santa’s beard looked like it had way too many germs for him to sit on his lap. Hmm, well at least he is thinking safe the first time out of the room. Especially without me. I wasn’t allowed to go because he was supposed to be shopping for me. When he got we got all crafty, which if any of you know me, makes me very happy. The Seacrest studio was doing quick easy tie dye and we had a bag sent up to our room to participate. Fun, fun, FUN! We made a great t-shirt together and can’t wait to do more. Then after that, Daniel after nearly 7 months decided to join me in the BMT kitchen to help make lunch. Wait! Hold the phone. First we had to clean the very clean uncontaminated kitchen. Daniel gloved up as I always do and then joked that he should need to wear a hair net to pass health code preparing his lunch. He has been really into having nachos lately and especially today as he wanted to try out his array of tailgating hot sauces he scored at the Christmas give away. I guess he couldn’t wait until getting home next week let alone Christmas to tear into his own gift selection. He ate the whole batch. I told him nothing tastes as good as making your own food. Then after lunch was a VERY special treat. We were allowed the opportunity to go off the unit for a sort of day pass. Since we couldn’t go home because we are having the ducts cleaned today Daniel chose to go down to the Seacrest studios and do his football show live for the first time in weeks. They were so accommodating, they closed the studio to all visitors and welcomed Daniel back to his coveted seat. He did a great job. Another special treat was that I asked Daniel’s grandparents to come watch his show. This is the first time they have seen him in a very long time. They knew they had to abide by the rules and observe from the other side of the thick glass as he did his show but after all this time I guess this was a real treat for them. It was hard to not hug or smuoosh him but it was the unfortunate rules and conditions of getting to see him. I am sure they were happy to take what they could get and I was happy that I was able to invite them to view the animal in a rare siting behind glass. All in all a very busy and different day than what we have had for so so long.
